چکیده

Introduction: MRE measures tissue stiffness, which reflects the underlying structural organization of cells, extracellular matrix, and capillaries. Diffusion MRI measures the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), which describes the random motion of water molecules in both the intraand the extra-cellular compartments. Both MRE and diffusion MRI are used for detecting diseases in soft biological tissues such as the brain, liver, and other internal organs. Therefore, the combination of MRE and diffusion MRI may provide complementary information on the changes of tissue cellularity and structure associated with pathology. Several studies have shown the potential of combining MRE with diffusion MRI for assessing liver diseases, and for measuring the anisotropic viscoelasticity of gel phantoms and human brains. These studies, however, used separate acquisitions of MRE and diffusion that prolong the imaging protocols. Here, we introduce a new pulse sequence, Diffusion-MRE (dMRE), that is capable of encoding diffusion attenuation and MRE wave motion simultaneously.

MR elastography as a method to estimate aortic stiffness and its comparison against MR based pulse wave velocity measurement

Background Arterial (aortic) stiffness is a well-recognized pathophysiological change that plays a significant role in the determination of risk factors for various cardiovascular diseases [1]. Measurement of arterial stiffness using pulse wave velocity (PWV) is the gold standard among non-invasive modalities. Recently, a novel non-invasive MRI based technique known as magnetic resonance elasto...

Pulse sequence programming in a dynamic visual environment: SequenceTree.

PURPOSE To describe SequenceTree, an open source, integrated software environment for implementing MRI pulse sequences and, ideally, exporting them to actual MRI scanners. The software is a user-friendly alternative to vendor-supplied pulse sequence design and editing tools and is suited for programmers and nonprogrammers alike. METHODS The integrated user interface was programmed using the Q...

Geometric distortion evaluation of magnetic resonance images by a new large field of view phantom for magnetic resonance based radiotherapy purposes

Background: The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiotherapy planning method have been considered in recent years because of the advantages of MRI and the problems of planning with two images modality. The first step in MRI-based radiotherapy is to evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) images geometric distortion. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate system related geometric distort...

A spin echo sequence with a single-sided bipolar diffusion gradient pulse to obtain snapshot diffusion weighted images in moving media.

In vivo MRI data can be corrupted by motion. Motion artifacts are particularly troublesome in Diffusion Weighted MRI (DWI), since the MR signal attenuation due to Brownian motion can be much less than the signal loss due to dephasing from other types of complex tissue motion, which can significantly degrade the estimation of self-diffusion coefficients, diffusion tensors, etc. This paper descri...

The future perspectives in transrectal prostate ultrasound guided biopsy

Prostate cancer is one of the most common neoplasms in men. Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided systematic biopsy has a crucial role in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, it shows limited value with gray-scale ultrasound alone because only a small number of malignancies are visible on TRUS. Recently, new emerging technologies in TRUS-guided prostate biopsy were introduced and showed hi...
